Radius Housing, as part of its community relations plan for St Patrick’s Shared Housing, supported St Colmcille’s and St Brigid’s Primary schools to link in with the All Saints GAA club to ‘have a go’ at their ‘Have a Go’ event for a bit of craic and to foster good relations.
Here’s what Deirdre O’Loan, Volunteer at All Saints GAA, had to say about the experiences and purpose of the project:
Both schools have a diverse body of pupils from seventeen nationalities who may not have previously experienced GAA sports.
Pupils found the event exciting and engaging. Every pupil received a small gift, including GAA footballs, hurling/camogie balls or sticks after the session concluded.
One pupil said, “I’ve never played hurling before, but now that I’ve ‘had a go’, I’m going to ‘give it a go’ moving forward!”
Radius Housing have supported a wide range of sports related programme to date also including Football with Ballymena United Girls and In Line Hockey with Norstar Hockey Club.
